WHO WE ARE

Your
Hosts: brother and sister Mike and Rita Coyle
In
the summer of 1980, Mike Coyle decided to change the shape
and style of the Health Food Store his family owned on the
corner of Holomoana and Hobron. Located right across the street
from the Ala Wai Marina and midway between Waikiki and Ala
Moana Beach Parks, the store had a great location for doing
business. For years, they had been making delicious, healthy
sandwiches for local surfers, folks in the neighborhood, and
inter-island ferry commuters.
But
Waikiki was changing. The commuter ferries were to be closed.
The Kaiser Hospital next door was to be demolished in the
near future, making room for a huge twin-towered hotel and
resort complex. Visitors wanted more nightlife in the neighborhood.
And
so the idea for the Harbor Pub was born: to create a bar and
restaurant for locals and visitors alike. Mike, his brother
Jack, his sister Rita, and their mother Millie, all worked
hard to make sure the Harbor Pub would be a place folks would
return to, again and again.
The
Harbor Pub opened for business on August 8, 1980. Voted year
after year by locals as having the "Best Pizza in Honolulu",
and known as a place where everyone felt at home, the Harbor
Pub was destined to become a success. The Pub's reputation
of great food, generously poured cocktails, friendly bartenders
and a lively Irish Pub style atmosphere, has steadily grown
over the years.
People
who first visited us twenty years ago still stop by whenever
they come to the Islands, just to say hello and catch up with
old friends. Our local crowd remains ever loyal, and we often
hear them say the Pub is like an extension of their own living
rooms at home; a place where they can meet with their "Pub
Family".
If
we haven't yet met you, we hope to soon. Stop by the bar and
say hello. Have a meal and/or a cocktail while we get to know
each other. We'd like to make you a part of the "Pub
Family" too!

DEDICATION
This
site is dedicated to Jack Coyle, longtime manager of the
Harbor Pub. His sudden death in 2001 left a big hole in
our hearts, and in the atmosphere of the Harbor Pub.

We
miss you, Jack...
